Return to Training (TRACK AND FIELD) 7th July 2020

Important information and instructions for athletes and parents

ATTENTION ALL TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES AND PARENTS

RETURN TO CLUB TRAINING AT CARN BREA LEISURE CENTRE ATHLETIC TRACK DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC – from 7th July 2020

Carn Brea Leisure Centre is opening their outdoor facilities for the first time since the COVID pandemic on Monday 6th July 2020.

Cornwall Athletics Club has its first track session booked 6pm-8pm, Tuesday 7th July. We are starting slowly with only selected disciplines, athlete age categories and some coaches returning at this time.

Our regard for the safety and well-being of ALL club members is paramount. At all times we must ensure we adhere to the most current Government and our affiliated bodies guidelines pertaining to COVID-19. These restrictions may ease in the coming weeks/months and they may also become more restrictive if viral levels increase. We will need to adapt to these changes as and when they happen. Your full co-operation in this will help us to have a successful return to club training at Carn Brea track, all be it restrictive at this time.

At the moment ONLY club athletes (U15 and older) who have been invited to return to restricted training by their coach may attend. Please note, NOT all coaches are returning to the club at this time. There is an imposed limit of a maximum 5 athletes per coaching group (max 6 people in total including coach). Please, to avoid disappointment and being told to go home, DO NOT just turn up.
There is also a session booked from 6-7pm on Thursday 9th July. Again only by specific invite by your coach. Senior Club Endurance Athletes are meeting on Wednesdays 7-8pm, please see the specific posts on the club website and Facebook page regarding this.

RULES ATHLETES AND PARENTS MUST FOLLOW TO KEEP THEMSELVES AND CLUB MEMBERS SAFE.
Be prepared: before you leave home, in addition to your normal routine please ensure you heed the following advice :
  • Only attend club training if you are feeling fit and well. If you've been asked to self isolate because a household / household-bubble member is unwell then DO NOT attend training until you have followed the most current government guidelines and the 14-day isolation period has passed.
  • Have enough water to stay adequately hydrated plus food/snacks. The café/vending machines will NOT be open/available.
  • Waterproof warm coat, the club house will NOT be open, there will be no undercover area to “change” or keep dry in wet weather.
  • Waterproof kit bag or heavy duty plastic bag, there will be NO undercover area for kit storage.
  • Contact phone number to give to your coach, if under the age of 18, your coach will need parent / adult carer contact number too, this is in case we have a suspected / confirmed COVID case within the club and/or household.
  • The correct money for your training session £3 (short term measure as contactless payment system has been ordered).
  • Hand sanitiser for your personal use.
  • Spitting: if you really must “spit” then use a tissue, spitting on the track/ground is FORBIDDEN, please bring enough tissue for this purpose and and take it home with you.
  • Stay in regular contact with your coach, by phone or via other media.
  • DO NOT car share with people outside of your household or household-support bubble.
  • Just before you leave home, visit the toilet and wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds. Currently there are very limited toilet and hand washing facilities at the leisure centre (LC), please reduce the COVID risk, by not using them if you can help it.
On arrival at Carn Brea: there is a new system in place, please be prepared to wait, keeping socially distanced whilst we assist athletes and parents in front of you.
  • Entry to the track will be via the side gate entrance. Please look out for the new signage which will remind you to remain socially distant from anyone not within your household.
  • Be aware that the gate entrance is also the exit so there may be parents coming out after dropping off dependants. Please ensure social distancing at all times.
  • Please assume the car parking system is “live” and enter the Leisure Centre building via the downstairs door to the right of the steep cafe steps. There will be a hand sanitising station and a LC member of staff on the door to assist you. Enter your car reg details on the available touch screens as usual. Please be extra vigilant as the corridor is quite narrow and may cause social distancing issues. (Parents, please help us by ensuring your young athlete is “signed in” with their coach before entering the building and keeping the number of people entering the LC to a minimum).
  • Athletes make your way swiftly, with all of your belongings to the training area your coach has stipulated during previous contact.
  • Parents WILL NOT be encouraged to stay, although there is a sign-posted designated area : the wooden benches at the bottom of the steep cafe steps, if the area becomes crowded and social distancing cannot be maintained please do not be offended if you are asked to wait in your car. We have a duty of care to ensure the relevant guidelines are followed. As a responsible athletics club, we must do everything practicably possible to protect our coaches, our athletes, the leisure centre staff and the wider community.
  • There is an exception for parents / carers of disability athletes who will be allowed to accompany their dependants as arranged with their coaches.
  • Parents WILL NOT have access to the stepped viewing area along the finishing straight.
  • Parents WILL NOT be permitted to lean on the metal railing around the track.
  • Be mindful of the staff at the Leisure Centre, many have only just returned to their paid work following furlough, and may be feeling apprehensive.
  • Please support the Carn Brea Leisure Centre team in any changes they may need to make at very short notice. They have been working tirelessly to reopen their outdoor facilities for the community.
Athletic training:
  • Initially your coach will go through what measures you will need to take to remain safe and socially distanced from other athletes within your training bubble and also other groups around the track. There will be limitations on what track area and lanes you can use. A 2 meter minimum distance should be maintained with anyone not from your household.
  • As this is the first club training session back after the “COVID lockdown”, please work with your coach and the club to ensure an “as smooth as possible first session back”. Your training session probably won't have the same flow as it did before the pandemic and bear in mind this is very much a learning time for us as a club, we may have to change certain aspects of the sessions as we go to maintain safety.
  • Do NOT share water bottles.
  • Refrain from touching the metal railings surrounding the track, if you do touch them, please sanitise your hands as soon as possible.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, there may be occasions where another athlete is about to encroach on the minimum 2m social distancing rule. We all must work together to avoid this.
  • Regularly sanitise your hands.
  • If first aid is required, your coach will have some PPE supplies to hand, if appropriate, please put on the face mask supplied by your coach. A first aider will be called from the LC to administer first aid and take the necessary actions.
  • Take it slowly, follow your coach's guidance, don't over do it, your fitness level will probably be below where it was this time last year. Ensure you warm up and warm down enough.
End of session: please make your way out of the facility, maintaining social distancing and refrain from loitering. Hopefully there will be a time for socialising with your fellow athletes at the track in the not too distant future.
