James Waldie, a Fell Runner in the making

James Waldie is focusing one of his favourite running pursuits this summer, taking part in the Under 16 English Junior Fell Running Championship.  He will run five out of six races, with his best four results counting for the overall Championship.

In his first race James came 13th at the Wrekin in Shropshire.  Then in his next race held near Helvellyn in the Lake District, he came seventh. This was very encouraging, as he will still be Under 16 next year and  is currently lying about 3rd out of the fourteen year olds taking part.

He recently ran the Under 16 Clougha Pike Fell Race over 4 miles (800ft climb) near Lancaster. He came first in 26 minutes exactly, which was a course record.

In September James will be travelling to Edinburgh for the Scottish selection race for the home championship in October. He needs  to come in the top four to be selected for Scotland

More locally there is a four mile race at Belston on 8 July but before that he will be running in the  English
Championship at Ilkley on 1 July.
