Nineteen CAC runners survived to the sixth and final Westward Cross Country League race of the season at Bicton on Sunday and came away with five individual and five team trophies.

The Under 13 Boys won their event on the day and showed that they could have won overall but had to settle for 3rd, losing out to less talented teams who got their runners out more often. Callum Jones had another fine run, finishing 2nd, consolidating his silver overall and was very well supported by Sam Williams, just behind in 3rd, Sam Heslop-George was 8th and Josh Mortimer an encouraging 29th.
Our Under 13 Girls look like a solid team for the future, with Anna Ashbridge 12th and Jess Bolton 15th and Freya Glover running well, until succumbing to breathing problems and unfortunately having to drop out.
Our Under 15 Boys are one of our strongest teams and came 2nd on the day and 3rd overall. They could have certainly have won the league, if theyhad managed to field a full team of 3 runners in 5 of the 6 league races. At Bicton they were led by a gutsy front running display from James Waldie, eventually running out of steam and getting pipped for 2nd, another good effort from Owen Willet in 4th and a welcome return to action for Daniel Drew (16th). Owen's consistency through the season, together with a healthy dose of talent, gained him the bronze medal overall, with James finishing 4th overall.

The less said about our Under15 Girls the better, as team medals there for the taking but a massive no-show meant they missed out completely.
Our Senior Ladies, combined with the Under 17 Ladies, were the stars of the season, winning the overall team title yet again. Jo Friday finished 3rd at Bicton and capped an excellent season by claiming the individual League title. New recruit, ex-international swimmer and current high class triathlete Sam Herridge, had a great first run for the club in 11th, just beating a returning Emma Stallard, who has been the find of the winter. Sam seems to have many talents, though luckily for us (Nathan Gosling is her boyfriend and persuaded her to run) her taste in men is a bit dodgy! Jenny Almey was flying until suffering a leg problem and having to briefly stop but still came 17th and Katie Maddever worked her way through the field well to finish 22nd.

The Senior Men were pretty consistent over the winter and finished where they had been all season, in 3rd position, suffering a little from an inability to get full teams out for the three Devon fixtures after Christmas. Still bronze medals were a reasonable result. Our Veteran team, running within the Senior race, were also 3rd and both teams were indebted to Dave Rowe and John Waldie who were virtually ever-present. Dave Buzza was an improved 3rd at Bicton and finished 3rd overall and 1st Veteran.40, with Nathan Gosling maintaining his impressive form in 11th, Dave Rowe coming a solid 23rd, after a good 5th place the Plympton 10K in the morning and John Waldie continuing his improvement at Bovey Tracey in 47th.
Unofficially, it looks like CAC were the strongest club across all the age groups, which is a fine achievement and we'll be looking to do better next winter, as Tavistock threaten our position as top dogs.
