Mud mud glorious mud for club runners in Nottingham

A large group of the club's cross country runners proudly wore their county vests last weekend, competing in the UK Cross Country Championships in the picturesque grounds of Wollaton Hall in Nottingham.  This venue was hosting these championships for the eighth consecutive year and everyone agreed that conditions were certainly at their muddiest, with many of the club runners struggling to come to terms with the heavy going.

There were almost three hundred runners in most of the Young Athletes' races, so finishing inside the top one hundred was certainly a good result.  The Under 17 runners, Jenny Almey and Chris Dobson led the way finishing eighty sixth and eighty eighth in their respective races.  Kate Maddever also ran extremely well finishing seventy seventh in a smaller field in the Under 20 event.

Annabel Gummow, who was looking for a top ten placing in the Under 13 race, was hit by a severe breathing problem and unfortunately had to pull out.

The former Cornwall runner Adam Thomas, who is now living in Norfolk, qualified for his adopted county and is obviously in good shape finishing just two positions outside the top one hundred in a very competitive Senior Mens event.
