The first of Viv’s popular Summer Runs took place on Thursday 16th July - a less than summery evening of wind and torrential rain! Despite the weather, a hardcore of CAC runners battled along flooded roads and faced torrential downpours to meet at Stithians Reservoir for the multi terrain 5 miler.
Viv was grinning with optimism- sporting a tiny micro fibre vest top and short shorts, “I like it cold!” he said as the others stood in coats and hats, with heads bowed against the wind and rain.
Heading out with the wind behind them, the merry team (pet dogs included) successfully dodged some random chickens at the start, breezed along the reservoir trail and across the dam before turning into the real off road section. Ankle deep in water and leaping around to avoid brambles and nettles, the runners could have been forgiven for thinking winter had come early and that they had been tricked into a cross country race!
The sight of tarmac was a relief for some, as the group rejoined the road for a short stint, now into a buffeting wind. The final section across the winding wooden footbridge was a bit more sheltered and after emerging to the sight of the water sports centre, everyone’s legs found a bit of extra ooomph to get them to the car park quickly, as the rain got serious.
Prize for the most steamed up car, goes to Dave B – what was he doing?? Daren’t look too closely!
A great, varied run with friends- thanks Viv!
Next run is at Hayle on Thursday 23rd July at 7.00pm. Meet at the car park beside the swimming pool at Copperhouse. For details call Paul or Caroline Chesterfield on 01736 757541 or John Telford on 01736 758582
