Ladies dominant, amongst a host of club PB's
Jo leads Ladies to easy win. Men also win but not quite so easily!

A record number of 571 finishers  at Cubert on Tuesday, including 35 CAC runners who produced some cracking performances.

Our thirteen (unlucky for the opposition) Ladies again provided most of the highlights, winning their team race very comfortably.  Jo Friday led the way with a magnificent 28 minutes 30 seconds in 1st position (16th overall).   We think, the second fastest time ever on the course behind Commonwealth 5000m medallist Andrea Whitcombe’s 28.05.  Revis Crowle of East Cornwall Harriers returned to form in 2nd and then came Emma Stallard with a superb 30.50 for 3rd place, two and a half minutes quicker than last year!  She also won the Vet.35 age group.  Sarah Jarvis had a great run too in 6th with 31.55, with Suzy Bosustow just behind and nearly two minutes up on 2007 with 32.10 to bring home the A team.  Kathryn Burgess knocked off over a minute from last year with another fine run in 12th, with Jenny Evans also going well in 23rd with a PB of “only” 30 seconds in 35.02!

Certainly a performance worth smiling about

Some of our youngsters had a go at a (much) longer race and fared well considering.  Olivia Ballard was 269th in 38.24 and came 2nd female U20, with Eleanor Parkin and Kate Parry finishing 3rd and 4th Under 20’s in 41.03 and 41.04.  Nikki Coleman had a blinder, almost catching the youngsters with 41.08 for 340th overall out of over 570.  Jill Curtis had a strong run in 375th (42.23), closely followed by Lynette Torr in 379th with 42.32 – over 70 seconds faster than 2007.  Sam Alexander showed she’s recovered well from her great London result with a 3.5 minute PB of 43.42 in 406th position.

Well done Olivia, third Under 20.

Lynette, rarely caught on camera!

On the men’s front, Oliver Gibson of Newquay Road Runners showed that he’s got a lot more talent than we’d suspected as he blitzed the field to win by 39 seconds.  Dave Buzza was 2nd (just) for CAC in 25.55, with Shaun Milford a close 3rd, as Newquay gave us a run for our money (or wine!) in the team event.  Matt Cleave ran a PB of 26.49 in 6th,  though might be slightly miffed to have lost out to another young long-haired yeti (Dean Scott!) on the run in.  Matt Lewis had a great run, also recording a PB by a minute in 7th with 27.17, made remarkable by the fact that he’d completed the gruesomely hilly St Ives Triathlon two days earlier.  Colin Snook made a very welcome reappearance in club colours and ran superbly for 13th place in 28.24, just holding off young Ryan Cleave who PB’d by nearly 1 minute in 28.26 for 14th overall and 3rd Under 20, behind older brother Matt.

Battle of the youngsters, quite hair raising!

Steve Wherry joined the personal best performers, knocking 26 seconds off with 28.45 for a smooth 18th position, in the process closing in the Men’s A team for another win, though only just on this occasion.  He gained revenge over Shaun Tozer, who ran away from him in London, with Shaun finishing 10 seconds down here in 21st, leading an inspired CAC ‘B’ team to 4th place and the important bottle of wine each!  Adam Tatlow showed that his high level hockey at Birmingham University. is keeping him fit by coming 25th in 29.29, just holding off a reinvigorated Dave Angilley by 7 seconds.

Dave, one of the many PB performers

Will Collins struggled round after finishing his finals that afternoon and not training much recently, finishing a well below par 41st, with 30.31, not far ahead of Ollie Starr who had a good one in 49th with 30.57 (and 4th Under 20).  Six seconds down was Aaron Rodger with a PB of 31.03 for 51st and last scoring place in our B team – well done lads -  with Neville Witham 6th in a quality Vet.50 field clocking 31.13 for 56th and Phil Bolt posting a 30 second best performance in 61st with 31.29.

Phil, yet another improver

Dave Pell was another masochist recovering from St Ives, also posting a PB of 32.16 in 87th and Tony Shaw utilised a punishing burst of speed to overtake Danny Marsh late on to come 94th in 32.42 to Dan’s 97th in 32.51, yet another PB performer, this time  by 80 seconds.

An injury free Dave, not a common sight!
.
Coach Adrian Mutsaers showed he can walk the walk as well, with a useful 33.39 for 119th and Mr Consistent, Pete Torr ran 6 seconds faster than last year with 34.20 for 143rd place.  Big Viv Bray ran a six second PB, including his trademark vicious finishing kick, with 34.39 for 154th with Adam Herbert, in his first race for the club, acquitting himself well in 205th  (36.19).  Andy Reynolds just missed his best time in 217th (36.58) to round off yet another good day for the club.
