A small but crack CAC band of eight headed up to Launceston, lured by the enticement of a fairly flat course (in that area?!). It wasn’t too bad, though, with a gradual incline for most of the first two miles and then quick running until a nasty hill in the last half mile.
The Cleaves seemed to like the course, with Matt making a break at 2 miles and going on to win comfortably, though Ryan, after a steady start, moved through the field and nearly caught Matt at halfway. Matt broke the tape for a good win in 28 minutes 07, with Ryan well clear in 2nd place in 28 minutes 45 for the first of perhaps many 1-2s for the brothers.
Not far behind were another family duo, with James Waldie coming home 9th in 31.03 and father John having a fine race in 17th with 32.26. Alan Rowling sneaked back from holiday to place 49th and 2nd Vet. 60-64 in 35.49 and Norris Kington was 79th in 41.06 to win his Vet.65-69 age group and bring the team home in 2nd place. Well done all!
Kathryn Burgess is getting fitter all the time and was 4th lady in 34.02 and 33rd overall, only just missing out on the individual medals. Jenny Evans, now getting back to fitness after the netball season, was 8th lady in 37.08 but with Emma S and Jo F picking up injuries, we didn’t manage to finish a team.
