Senior Men win Plymouth Half Marathon

A crack team of Cornwll Athletic Club troops headed to Plymouth for the Half Marathon on Sunday expecting heavy rain and strong winds but competed in warm sunshine and came away with some good results, highlighted by the Men’s team comfortably winning the team event with three runners in the top ten and six in the first fifty two out of over 3000 finishers.

Dan Simons made a great comeback after missing from action for eight months, coming 7th in 1 hour 10 minutes 6 seconds behind a classy line-up of Africans and a couple of top British runners.

Dan Simons makes a welcome return to the team

Dave Buzza looked like he might get caught by Ronnie James at halfway but hung on to finish 9th overall and 1st Veteran in 1 hour 12 minutes 27seconds. Ronnie, who was also making a welcome return to competition after another injury, finished just one place behind Dave in 10th, also claiming the second Veterans prize, in 1 hour 13 minutes 20 seconds.  Ronnie's off to Australia soon and it looks like he will be in good shape for Queensland’s Gold Coast Marathon in five weeks time.

Nathan Goslin was running for the Royal Navy team, who beat the US Marines in their team challenge.  Nathan ran well to finish just outside his best in 20th place in 1.16.50.   Next came the battle for fourth scoring place in the team, with Matt Lewis finishing 32nd, ahead of one of Cornwall’s recent new recruits, Shaun Tozer, in 1.19.19.  Shaun was 52nd in a very respectable 1.21.26.

Nathan, this time in club colours.

We had a quality Ladies duo present and the girls certainly delivered, with Suzy Bosustow coming 22nd female in 1.35.11, followed closely by Kiri Wedlock, like Nathan running on this occasion in Navy colours, in 24th, clocking 1.36.29.
