Huge Personal Bests from Freya and Sam at Millfield

A small group of seven Cornwall Athletic Club’s talented middle distance squad made a successful appearance in the British Miler’s Club PB Classic meeting at Millfield School in Somerset recently, returning with three personal best performances.

Freya Glover and Sam Harry produced huge improvements, with Freya knocking over seventeen seconds off her best 1500 metre time, clocking an impressive 5 minutes 4.41.  Sam, running in one of the evening’s nine male 800 metre races, moved significantly closer to the two minute barrier, improving his best time over the distance by over four seconds, crossing the line in 2 minutes 4.2.

One of Cornwall Athletic Club’s Penair School contingent, Olivia Ballard, also set a personal best, reducing her fastest 1500 metre time to 5 minutes 19.81, shaving two seconds off last year’s best performance.

Alice Vage (2 minutes 33.79) and Chris Dobson (4 minutes 7.7) both narrowly missed improving on their best respective 800 metre and 1500 metre performances, as did Conor Robinson who would have learnt much about the importance of tactics and pace judgement, running 4 minutes 20.21 in the 1500 metres, just three seconds slower than his best time over this distance set a few weeks ago.

Phil Tugwell was the club’s sole representative over 3000 metres and was pleased to clock 9 minutes 40.39, just outside five minute mile pace.
