Annabel Gummow (Cornwall Athletic Club) completed an excellent track and field season with the bronze medal in the English National Under 15 Championship, held last weekend at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Annabel lined up in the 1500 metres and despite getting boxed in at the start, calmly worked her way through the field and was lying fifth at the bell.  Entering the finishing straight, she moved up to fourth place and during the hectic sprint to the line, edged ahead of the third place runner to claim her medal.  The Penair schoolgirl clocked 4 minutes 38.63 seconds, missing out on the silver medal by just one hundreth of a second.

Annabel knocked almost six seconds off her previous fastest time for the distance, set at Solihull last month and last weekend’s time exceeded the National Grade One standard by over thirteen seconds.
