Cornwall A C go back to the top of the League

Report on the South West league Meeting 3 at Exeter 1st July.

The club continued its progress to the top of the league. We are now in first place with an advantage of about 100 points over second place.

We were not able to fill all the places this time due to holidays and four late withdrawals did not help. However the athletes who went again put in their maximum effort.

The under 13 girls won again, led by a succession of victories by the sprint trio of Isobel Luscombe, Grace Howe and Lowenna Jones.  These three along with Alice Vage dominated the relay from start to finish winning by some forty metres. The under 15 girls also cemented their place on the leader board by another victory led by a sprint double by Lamorna Newman.  We certainly seem to be strong in the sprint area at the moment. The Ladies team was under strength this time but finished fourth with the few who were available performing with great credit.  Kitty Byrne knocked off 5 seconds on her previous best in the 300 hurdles.

Ryan Cleave (3rd 'A' string) and Owen Willet (1st 'B' string) in the Under 17 1500 metres steeplechase

The under 13 Boys finished second but Calum Jones broke through the 5 minute Barrier for the first time in the 1500m and Liam Littlejohn went under 29 seconds for the first time in the 200m.  The senior/U20 men won by the narrow margin of three points, obviously helped by the return of Dave Green from University, and Ollie Shilston from Australia.  It was good to see them both competing in the green and gold.

The athletes of the day were judged to be Grace Howe, Calum Jones and Liam Littlejohn.
